Mission Week 16

Hey everyone! I hope you all are doing great and staying safe. Or, at the very least, had a better week than we did down here in Valle de Etla, haha. This one’s going to be a roller coaster, so get ready. And thus, the story begins…
Introduction Last p-day, all the Elders in our district got together at the church like usual but some of the American elders weren’t feeling too great. They just were a little under the weather and didn’t want to eat anything. Next day they got COVID tested and it turns out one of them had COVID. So our entire district went into quarantine on Tuesday and we didn’t leave our apartments the whole week.
Quarantine Food Of course this whole COVID problem caused an uproar with the members who give us food every day. Well, the worst possible situation happened. -The members canceled our food, so we were on completely on our own -We had just given half of our emergency food to the new area (Telix) because their apartment literally had nothing -We didn’t buy very much food on p-day, just enough for a week of breakfasts So, we were pretty much ready to eat rice and beans the whole week and whatever else was in our emergency supply. However, we did ask the Bishop if he could bring us some meat. Instead, being the awesome bishop that he is, he brought us an entire pantry full of food! (pictures below). So yeah, we definitely cooked and ordered out a lot this week, haha.
Quarantine Work Unfortunately, this whole lockdown thing had to start the day after the whole mission opened up for in-person work. And this just made the work harder. There was plenty of contacting and we actually taught some new people, but the most incredible miracle happened at the end of the week. It was Saturday night and we had an appointment with Monica, who has a baptism date but still needs her testimony to grow. We’ve been having some difficulties with her and didn’t really know what to teach her, so we just put together a few scriptures and called her. The lesson that followed was the most spiritually guided lesson on my mission thus far. We taught about faith and the commandments using a few Bible stories (she has been reading in Genesis a lot) and it was fantastic. I know it had an effect on her. And it was a huge blessing for us after a pretty tough week.
The Test On Saturday the mission president had scheduled for everyone in quarantine to get COVID tested. And based on the number of companionships in lockdown, it was probably the zone conference last week where the virus spread. Anyways, Saturday morning we finally left our apartment and went to the city for the test. They told us the mission president would be informed of the results first, then tell us later. So we came home and did work as usual. And, funny enough, right as we finished the awesome lesson with Monica, we got the text from the president. NEGATIVE for us both!!!!! That whole night was just one big miracle, haha. Now, we are totally free to leave and go to work outside. It’ll be different, but still is going to be amazing, I just know it!

Take care and have a great week everyone! -Elder Ord
