Hey everyone! How are you all doing? I hope the start of your November is going well and not too cold so far, haha. Down here in Oaxaca (city) it has gotten pretty chilly and is especially cold in the mornings with a lot of wind in the afternoons.
Exchanges (Intercambios) On Wednesday, Elder Loveridge from my district and I had exchanges, and we had some crazy lessons as well. 1. Firstly, we actually had a lesson in-person with Santiago (a youth) and talked about baptism and faith. Unfortunately, we haven’t yet talked to his mom about allowing him to be baptized, but we are still working on it. 2. Next, we had a lesson with an investigator named Fernando. In the middle of the lesson, he tells us that he is actually a member who was baptized a few years ago. This completely shocked us and now the work has changed from baptism to reactivation, but he seems quite ready for a second chance to have God in his life. 3. The final lesson we had on Thursday morning was with a family we have had difficulties contacting. We finally got an in-persona lesson with them. In all, it wasn’t that bad, but it sure felt like a trainwreck because they were having difficulties believing some of the fundamental things we taught. Also, the mediocre Spanish skills of both Elder Loveridge and I didn’t help very much either.
Sleepover with the Secretaries This was a pretty crazy experience. First, the background. My companion, Elder Licona, was partly in-charge of a pre-MTC, Camp Helaman-like event called “Embarcais” in his former area. However, the event is taking place this transfer, so we traveled to his old area to have a planning meeting with the Stake Preaident and Zone Leaders. And it went super well! The actual event in a few weeks should hopefully be really good. Okay, now the actual story. Because the event ran long into the evening, we were going to sleep in the offices. However, the 3 secretary elders were there and we decided to stay at their place instead. And boy was it a party! A few absolutely hilarious things happened between the secretaries and it was just a fun night. Then! In the morning we were going to shower a the AP’s apartment next door, but my companion accidentally dropped the hidden keys, so we pretty much had to pick the lock to get in which was super funny too. In all, it was a pretty great experience but I happened to get pretty sick the day after so that wasn’t too fun.
The Work This week was amazing for the work and miracles happened for sure. We found a lot of new people and one of them, Davy (Daa-bee) is the Stake President’s niece. She is super interested and we are working with her mom (yeah 2 for 2, right?) to allow Davy to get baptized. But it seems to be going well and we have a lot of hope for her. Apart from her, we still are working with Santiago, Zereth, and Martin as well. If you all could pray for them that would a huge blessing! Thanks guys!
