Hey everyone! I hope your week went great because mine was a little harder than it should have been. But it still was a grand week of learning and enjoying the mission experience. I just hope the future is a little better, haha.
Transfers Last Tuesday was transfers and my companion Elder Barret got sent to another part of the city, while I got sent to Juchitan! What and where is Juchitan you might ask? Well, it is a city near the coast, and parts of the zone have beach too. So yeah, it is hot and humid. My area, Santo Domingo is kind of at the edge of the State of Oaxaca and we are a good 40 minute drive from the city, so it really makes us feel pretty secluded. The area basically consists of a few towns that are spread apart by about 30 minutes each. There is a lot of work to be done here and it is incredible hard to do it all. But, we have a fantastic ward with great members helping us reaching out to those other towns.
More on the Area My new companion is Elder Verbanatz, another missionary from Utah and has been out about 11 months. He has a strong desire to work and is all loves to speak Spanish. It should be good transfer with him. The apartment here isn’t terrible, but a little unfortunate as to that we don’t have AC, just a few fans. It is the colder season and there is a ton of wind around here (enough to have a wind turbines almost as far as the eye can see), so the heat isn’t completely unbearable.
The Title I say “back to Santo Domingo” because the town I lived in in my first area was called Santo Domingo. There are a lot of repeat names of cites, towns, and streets here in Oaxaca. Just a little funny.
The Work The work here in Santo Domingo is really crazy, and we have a ton of people in teaching right now. Interestingly enough, this area used to be split in two, and it is getting to be around the time to split it back. With the long travel times and very expensive transport, the work just seems a bit overwhelming at times. However, miracles still happen! On Saturday, we took a trip to Las Conchas, a town about an hour from our house. There, we taught the Restoraton to the family of a member using his help and ir went fantastic. We should be returning this Saturday to have another lesson with them. Apart from them, there are a few people we have that are going to church, getting their testimonies, and preparing for baptism.
