Mission Week 34: Living in Juchitán

Hey everyone! How are you? How has life been going? Hopefully great! It is just strange to think of how much time has passed and how cold the weather is back at home. This week here in Santo Domingo was super great and even through a few tough days and experiences, here we are! Ready for another!
The Schedule Because our area is about an hour away from the rest, the transport to and from the main city of Juchitan is pretty irregular and after about 5 at night, there isn’t any. This means that almost every time we go to the city, we have to stay the night with the zone leaders. And now that we go to the city every Monday for p-day as well as every Friday for the zone activity of Todos Juntos, we have basically spent time and lived in Juchitán for a big chunk of the transfer. It’s crazy. We go so often, we always have a change of clothes packed and ready to go, haha.
Zone Conference #2? This week we had a spur of the moment conference so once again, we went the hour long taxi ride to the city of Juchitán. However, this conference was actually about Family History, and how us as missionaries can use family history to have opening conversations with new people as well as help members work on their family history too. It was a super great conference and had a TON of good, practical lessons. The big joke however is the day before, we were doing visits with our ward’s bishop and he got a text from the stake president about how Elder Cook of the Twelve was going to do a family history training with the stake leaders as well as with the missionaries. So we were pretty excited to hear that an Apostle was going to teach us. However, when we got to the conference, it turns out Brother Udd, a family history specialist, was the one doing the teaching. It was still a fantastic training, but just a little funny and I think the names Cook and Udd got lost in translation or something 😂
The Work The work has been incredible great this week! Finally, people are becoming less sick from covid and the flu and we are having lessons more frequently. And even though our sacrament meeting is still through zoom, it hasn’t been too bad because of a few people in our area live extremely far away and watching church is much easier now than going in-person. But for this month of February, which is going to be a spcial month in the mission, we’re going to need all the prayers that we can get. Especially for Nadia and Toletino about receiving an answer to their prayers about the truthfulness of the church, and for Nayo and Maritza that their situations will work out in the end. Thank you guys!
