Hey everyone! I hope you had a great week and a wonderful Easter! This week for me here in Salina Cruz was truly incredible. Many things happened, we worked hard, had fun, and had a ton of success! Here we go!
Baptism in a Week If you don’t recognize the name Natalie, it is because she was a new person in teaching this week, and had her baptism on Friday too. She is the 10-year-old daughter of a less-active member in the ward. This week, her super active grandmother happened to be in town and, with the help of the Stake President, wanted the baptism to happen this week. So Elder Carbajal and I went over every day this week to teach her and prepare her for her baptism. But she was pretty much already ready because she had been assisting church with the help of family members for months now. But it was a huge blessing to help her achieve her goal of baptism after having to wait 2 years for permission from her parents. And her favorite color is pink, so we tried to get everyone who came to the baptism to wear something pink as well. Enjoy the photos!
Mouse in the House One day when I was sweeping up a bit of dust in the corner behind my bed, I left for a minute to grab a dust pan. When I returned to the bedroom, I saw a little mouse scurry from behind my bed to the bathroom. It freaked me out and for the next hour Elder Carbajal and I were scared to death trying our best to catch it. Finally, we called the landlord who shortly arrived with his cat, Minerva. It was a relief and after literally 30 seconds in the bathroom together, Minerva had caught the mouse. It was quite the experience and a bit strange because we didn’t find any mouse droppings and there really isn’t an easy way to get into the house, it really is like a bunker when the doors are shut. But we just hope another one doesn’t appear any time soon!
Refinery Fire This week there was a huge fire at the refinery in Salina Cruz. We could see the smoke from almost anywhere and it lasted a few days. Fortunately, the fire seems to be put out, but as far as we know the refinery is still in repair because the eternal flame hasn’t returned yet.
Todos Juntos (All Together) On Saturday, we did another super fun Todos Juntos activity with the ward and district. It was a blast! We had a huge turnout and with 6 groups, we were able to hit just about every part of the area of Linda Vista. It was a great experience for the youth and adults in the ward to feel how it is to be a missionary, and a few of them shared their experience afterward with testimonies as such. The rejection, the hate, the times people hide from us, or turn us down because they are of a different religion, all of it. But the beauty is in the service. Service to our Heavenly Father and everything that comes from it. That chance to change the heart of a single soul, even if it is our own, is one of the greatest blessings found in missionary work.
