Hey everyone! I hope you’ve had a great week and for those in Utah, a great holiday weekend! This week in Oaxaca was another busy one with a lot of work and success. We are pushing through and coming to the close of the transfer (and Elder Cauble’s training) pretty soon, so it is one final push before everything probably changes!
Moving Houses Elder Cauble and I didn’t move, but another companionship of elders in our district, Elder Ehinger and Elder Reyes, did. They had been living in this pretty bad house for months and their area was in desperate need of change. Their power would randomly cut out a number of times every hour, they lived at the top of this horrible hill, and the house wasn’t all that great. So after battling for over a month to find and move into a new house, the mission finally let them. They now live in what probably is the nicest house in the mission. This apartment complex just got built and they are amongst the first people moving in. Saturday morning we all got together and loaded everything up and moved it over to the new house. Super blessed and a huge break after all they’ve had to deal with.
The Work This week the work has been progressing a lot and as the transfer is almost coming to a close, there is still a lot to do.
Artemio He and his family have been talking to the missionaries for months now, and only his teenage grandson is baptized. They are very humble people and are facing a number of difficulties, but Artemio has the desire to follow the Lord and get baptized. We are working a lot with him and hope that this baptism will come soon too, not just for him but for his family too.
Sandra and Julio They are the parents of some recent convert teenage girls and their family just moved into our ward. They have a lot of faith and want to learn more about the church. We are super privileged to be teaching them and with the help of our awesome ward, Sandra and Julio have been welcomed and included by all. We will continue working with them and help them on their path towards baptism.
Omar The story with Omar is a bit of a crazy one, because a few weeks ago we got a referral from Facebook of this guy who wanted to attend church. So we contacted him, had a call explaining everything, and he committed to coming that Sunday. Sunday then rolls around and he doesn’t. We try texting and calling him over the next few days but nothing goes through, and we end up dropping him from teaching. Then, just this week we get a call from the Relief Society President of a branch in our stake and she is with Omar! We then talk with him for a while and he explains how his phone broke and he had health problems and this whole story, and then says he’ll come to church this next Sunday. And he came! And loves it! Once again shoutout to the awesome Linda Vista Ward for making him feel so welcomed. We are definitely going to keep working with him and building his faith until baptism as well!
24th of July We didn’t get to celebrate with parades and fireworks, but this day happened to be the birthday of our Relief Society President, Hermana Flor! So in celebration of it, we all got together at the bishop’s house and ate tacos de cabeza (cow head tacos). They were pretty good and super well cooked so I won’t get sick like I did last time, haha. We then celebrated more than night with a super spiritual family home evening and cake. It was really fun and just what we needed to finish off the week.
Pictures! Just some photos of the awesome view!
Take care everyone! Have a great week! -Elder Ord
