Mission Week 96: The Internet is Failing

Hey everyone! I hope you are all doing great and have had a wonderful Easter! Over here in Oaxaca we had a good week and are excited to get going on the next!
Holy Week As you all know, last week was Holy Week and it was really good. We had a lot of mission work to do and it was special sharing more about our Savior to those out here in La Costa. We also had a pretty special Sacrament Meeting at church because the youth of the Branch had just gotten back from a week-long FSY and most got up to share their testimonies. It was super spiritual and nice to see such a change manifested in those kids. Then the branch president shared a really good talk about Easter too. It was a good week.
Internet Problems So from the start of my time here, I have realized how bad the internet has been here in this area, in the city of Puerto Escondido. In our house, there is barely enough signal to get out a very choppy video call, and even in the church the wifi is incredibly slow. I have been super confused about this because Puerto Escondido is a pretty big tourist town and one of the larger cities in Oaxaca, so why is the internet so bad? Well, this week it got even worse. We couldn’t even get video calls to work anymore and it got so bad that we couldn’t fill out our daily report form that we have to fill out every week. We came up with a few possibilities of why it is so bad. 1. It is spring break, so there is a greater abundance of people here, clogging up the internet 2. According to some members, solar flares are affecting the internet here (who knows?) 3. Our cell phone is failing (which is highly possible) These are some reasons why it could be so bad this week. However, we looked it up and found out that the reason the internet is usually so terrible anyways is because Puerto Escondido doesn’t have any fiber optic cables, so the city doesn’t receive much signal anyways. It is basically something that we just have to deal with.
Transfers Sunday morning we got the transfer news and it is confirmed that Elder Crandall is getting transferred. I’ll be staying here in Zicatela to finish off the mission (thank heavens!). Today is the last day Elder Crandall will be in the area because his bus leaves tomorrow morning. We are guessing he’ll stay in the outside zones near the coast, but to exactly where we still don’t know. Today we pretty much are just hanging out with some other elders and getting ready for the next transfer.
