Hey Everyone! This week was basically Christmas 1/2, so there was a lot we did and had a lot of fun doing it. I hope you all had a great week and are ready for the holiday to come already like we are over here!
The Ward Party On Thursday was the ward party for the Antequera Ward and it was super fun! It started off with a talent show/activity where a few members went up on stage to sing, dance, or do whatever. And for us missionaries, my companion and I got invited to go sing “Feliz Navidad” with the Elders Quorum, which was funny because when the English Part of “I wanna wish you a merry christmas!” came up in the song, basically it was only Elder Barret and me singing as loud as we possibly could. After, were piñatas?? In Mexico piñatas are a huge part of christmas, and the ward literally bought like 15, so we spent over an hour smacking piñatas; all age groups and basically everyone who came to the party. My companion and I got a smack at it and both had really funny things happen. I basically got an instant KO and knocked it down with a single hit, and Elder Barret spent a minute smacking his with little to no success. It was great. And after, we had a great dinner of the classic Mexican tacos.
Christmas Multi-Zone Conference! This week, on Friday, was the Christmas mission activity. All of the missionaries in the city (3 zones worth, about 90 people) went and it was a blast! The day went like this: We arrived at 9 in the morning and had a wrap-up presentation for the whole year which was super nice and a good reminder of what happened this year. After, we had a huge talent show and pretty much everyone presented something in one way or another. Our district presented a skit where we danced jokingly to a funny christmas song for about 20 seconds, then the song changed and we beautifully sang the Spanish version of “O Holy Night”. Next after the talent show everyone did a white elephant type of game where we rolled a giant dice which determined if we picked or stole a present from other people. For my present I put in was a super funny looking Superman plushie (photo below) and a pair of shark slippers. Then was a pretty good lunch of pasta, meat, salad, and a brownie for dessert. After that, there were gifts from family! We all received our gifts and even most of the missionaries opened theirs too. I decided to wait so the presents are currently sitting in a pile in my apartment, so that is good. And finally, we had one last lesson from Presidente Martinez. It was about helping members be a part of the mission and really motivated the mission to continue working hard. In all, it was a great conference and a long day of fun.
Birthday Sunday was my first birthday in the mission, and I turned the big 20! It was kind of a normal day but still felt pretty special. And I had an awesome chat with the family and got to open my presents which were: A pocket trumpet! (A trumpet, but miniature), some storage shelves I can hang, some frosted oreos, and a super cursed musical christmas card that wouldn’t stop playing and when we ripped it open to pull out the batteries, the whole inside was filled with glitter! It was one of the best pranks I’ve seen and a good laugh.
