Mission Week 33: Red Light Green Light

Hey everyone! Another week has passed and it was a pretty good one here in Oaxaca. The winds kept up, the heat stayed down, and the work is moving along, even if a bit slowly. I hope you all had a great week and will have a fantastic upcoming one!
Zone Conference This week I had my first zone conference in the zone of Juchitan and it was really good! We stayed the night with the zone leaders and had our interviews with Presidente Martinez in the morning, then the conference started a little later in the day. We had some awesome lessons and zone conferences are always a good push for the month.
Todos Juntos! (Everyone Together) The zone leaders and Stake President of Juchitan recently put together an activity called Todos Juntos where all of the elders in the stake (about 14 of us) get together for a few hours in a single area and go out teaching and ministering with members in this one area. It is a great way to minister from area to area and go to places where usually nobody would go. So we had the first of this activity in an area called Libertad. Elder Verbanatz and I got assigned to go with two 17-year-old youths named Yara and Rey-David in the branch and went around for about an hour knocking doors and contacting in the street. We contacted some people and one even agreed to go to church on Sunday (while also giving us an invitation to his own church), so that was interesting. It really strengthened the testimony of the youths with us and helped the branch out a ton. We’ll be doing this every Friday until we hit every area, so it is something that’ll go on for a while.
Red Light This week, the Municipal of Santo Domingo Ingenio (the town we live in) decided that covid is going too rampant right now and now the town is in Red Light, meaning that all meetings, sports, school, and any other things with groups of people, are canceled. For us, that means no more church on Sundays, just through zoom. It certainly makes the work harder, but…
Green Light …up until now, the mission president or area authority have said nothing as to the change of missionary work back to phase 1 or phase 2. So we are still working as missionaries completely in phase 3, or in other words, working as normal. Despite the shutting down of the town and meetings, we are still going on with the work in full force. And to be completely honest, the real problem going on right now is the flu, and everyone is treating it as covid. So people are recovering quickly and hopefully this whole Red Light thing will be done in about a month.
