Mission Week 56: Irving’s Baptism

Hey everyone! Happy 4th of July! I hope you all have a wonderful day and a fun night of celebration! It feels strange to be celebrating the holiday here on the mission, especially considering that last year at this time I was still in the Home MTC. I’ve certainly come a long way since then but there is still a lot of road ahead which I’m pretty excited for. This week here in Oaxaca was a big one and busy busy whilst working with people in teaching and having a baptism!
*Irving’s Baptism!* We truly had a miracle this week with being able to baptize Irving! He has progressed so much in the past few months and with finishing up lessons and him passing the baptismal interview, everything was set. We had the service on Saturday and it went well, although there wasn’t too much attendance from the ward. But just enough to still make it special. And it was even more special for Elder Cauble because Irving asked him to perform the ordinance so he was super excited about doing his first baptism.
*Irving’s Confirmation* Then the funny part happened. On Sunday was the confirmation, and the original plan was to have me do the confirmation, no problem. But literally at the last minute, as one of the counselors in the bishopbrick is announcing the confirmation, Irving leans over to me and says, “Can I have a change of opinion? I would like Elder Cauble to do the confirmation too.” So I turn to Elder Cauble and say, “Your going to be confirming, saque sus normas (take out your missionary standards book with instructions on how to confirm)” Then poor Elder Cauble is super nervous because we haven’t prepared at all for this, but with the help of our awesome bishop, the confirmation went great. I am super happy and I know it was a big day for Irving too. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for him!
