Mission Week 73: Training Part 2 Week 1

Hey everyone! Happy Halloween! How are you? I hope things are going well wherever you are in the world! Here in Oaxaca, we had quite the week! It was Elder Tobler’s first official week here in Oaxaca and we worked super hard so I’m pretty happy.
Elder Tobler As I mentioned in last week’s letter, my new companion is Elder Tobler! I’m training again, so here in Emiliano Zapata and Zimatlán is his first área. He is from Moapa Valley, Nevada, and is 20 years old. He also has a brother who started his mision at the same time, but is still in the MTC learning Chinese and preparing to serve in New York. So pretty cool! We have a pretty rocking week together but it was a crazy and irregular one with having to go to Oaxaca for his green card and a lot of other things happening.
Día de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) The holiday is coming here in Oaxaca for day of the dead! We have seen a lot of decorations, food, and flowers in preparation for this one. I’m excited to see how it’ll be this year because last year there wasn’t much of anything due to covid. But being a missionary I’m not sure I’ll get to see much anyways, jaja. But at least I can eat the super good Pan de Muerto and see the pretty flowers all set out. If you want a picture of how it might be, think of the movie “Coco”, it actually gives a pretty accurate picture of how things are here in Oaxaca!
The Work We have been working a ton in the branch we cover, Zimatlán. There are a lot of potential people there so we’ve been going and going and going. However, many of these people just don’t want to progress, so we had to let them go for a while and look for others who are better prepared to receive the Gospel.
Bernardina One of the people we have in teaching is Bernardina! She is the mom of this one teenage Kevin who we were teaching for a while, but isn’t quite ready for baptism yet. However, Bernardina herself is super ready and we are preparing for her to get baptized on Saturday! This week we had a bit of trouble finding her because she kept going out and doesn’t have a phone, but Saturday we made an extra trip to her house and we able to teach her, her husband, and Kevin! It was a really good day and we are going to work hard so that she can get baptized!
