Mission Week 89: Success While Suffering

Hey everyone! How are you all doing? I hope you’ve had a fantastic week and are being successful in all your efforts!
*P-Day Activity!* Last p-day we planned this huge activity as a district that turned out super fun. It was Elder Jackson and Elder Isbell’s year mark, so we went and celebrated with breakfast at a member’s house and then headed to Etla (my first area in the mission) to go tour this castle and then go to the Nacho Libre Church.
The breakfast was super fun and just a riot because we were laughing for the entire hour straight. We also bought a cake and celebrated the year mark for those great elders.
We then took a taxi up to Etla and went to what is called El Castillo de los Duendes (Castle of the Elves). It was kind of like a museum that this guy built himself because after a life-threatening accident, he dreamed up the entire castle. It was quite spectacular and after talking with this guy for about a half an hour, the 6 of us missionaries were able to put him on baptismal date as well as his 2 grandkids. Yeah, we’re kind of incredible (Humble brag) (Just kidding haha).
After, we took a mototaxi over to the Nacho Libre Church and hung out there for a bit and took pictures. It was pretty nostalgic to return to my baby area and see how much has changed. It was really a great district activity and a lot of fun.
*Exchanges with the Zone Leaders* This week we finally got the chance to go on exchanges with the zone leaders, and I got to stay here in the area of Cada Blanca and work with Elder Leyva. He is an awesome missionary who really knows how to work and that has a ton of crazy baptism stories, so it was a good day together. The real crazy thing that happened was in a lesson with this older guy named Hugo; Elder Leyva pretty much perfectly set up a plan as to where this guy would know everything he needs before baptism in a perfect one-month time span. We left pretty happy with a baptism date and a lot of hope for him. But then the day after we get this huge breakup text from Hugo saying how he doesn’t really want to meet with us anymore and he is fine in his own beliefs. I guess you can’t always make everything work. But it was a good learning experience nonetheless.
*Miracles in the Week* This week was also super full of Miracles because we set three baptismal dates and had 5 people come to church, which was awesome. We have been working really hard with these two kids Yilbert and Jesús to get them ready for baptism and their mom finally gave them permission! Also, another little girl named Dayana will be getting baptized pretty soon too, there was just a little problem we ran into and she has to go to another ward as for now, but everything should work out just great!
Those three came to church on Sunday as well as two others, Heberto and Delfino, which was a huge miracle. We have been trying so hard to get them to church and take the sacramental, and it finally happened with the Lord’s help! Please pray for these five, they are all so close to baptism and making covenants with God, and need the extra prayers! -Yilbert -Jesús -Dayana -Heberto -Delfino Thanks so much! You guys are awesome!
*Suffering* Nearly the whole week Elder Jackson and I were suffering because of how sick we were. We’re pretty sure it started on Monday when we had to do a pretty hard fast for the mission, and having everything went downhill from there. The exchanges with the zone leaders were great but also destroyed both Jackson and me, so the next few days after we were suffering with a nasty cough, sore throat, and runny nose. But the sickness didn’t quite just hit us, because many other missionaries and members were also pretty sick last week, so there seems to be a bug going around. The great thing is that during all that sickness and pain, God was still with us and gave us enough strength to work and have these miracles happen, so the week turned out super great!
