Mission Week 61: District Leader

Hey everyone! I hope you’re all doing well! This week has been a good one here down in Salina Cruz and honestly a huge blessing too. At first I was wondering a bit why I was kept here another transfer but after of the experiences this week I sure know that I’m still here for a purpose and will do my best to work hard until I’m out!
I’m a District Leader now?? Yep, it’s true. I’m sure the news has already spread to a few of you but for those who don’t know, I got called as a DL last week. I just had to keep it secret for a bit but noe the news is how. Last Friday we had a training over zoom and now I’m in charge of a bunch of things which has been a bit of an adjustment, but a good one too. However, we were also told in the meeting that pretty much everything this transfer is going to be online and over zoom (district counsel, zone conference, district activities, etc.). It honestly is pretty sad but apparently this is because of another wave of covid or in preparation for the Mexican Independence Day conference next transfer. That’s not to see we are a little bummed out; it is crazy how bad covid is still affecting everything. But as far as the missionary work goes, we are still completely free work and have everything in-person, which is good and a huge blessing.
Service at Piedra Cuachi Another ward in our stake asked us to do this service project of cleaning up this one popular hiking trail called Piedra Cuachi, which ends at this huge rock that looks like it was split in two. So we spent all of Saturday morning there with shovels and machetes making the trail look better and more appealing to tourists. It was a pretty fun project and one of the few times this transfer that we are going to be able to be together as a district. Also, a few of us had just hiked the trail a few weeks ago so it was cool to be able to return and fix the not-so-great parts. In all, a good experience.
Artemio We are finally getting closer to Artemio’s baptism and hope that this week it should happen! Last week was super rough because we could only meet with him once because of a covid scare in his family, but everything turned out alright. He is so incredibly humble and has a lot of faith in God. He is also the head of the family, so we are hoping that with his baptism, we will be able to have many more follow because of the example he’ll set!
The Work Like I said, I really do know why I’m supposed to be here still. With all the people that we have visited recently and who are progressing, it just wouldn’t have felt right to leave them quite yet. We have been working hard with Omar, as well as Julio and Sandra. Omar has a lot of faith and christian knowledge and is still receiving us well, so we sre excited to see where it goes from here. Julio and Sandra are also learning a lot and even though there are a lot of trials they are facing, we have seen the gospel be a huge blessing on them. The youth in our stake went to a huge 3-day activity last week, and the recent convert daughters of Julio and Sandra also went and had a blast! His Gospel is true and is a huge blessing on everyone. I know it!
