Hey everyone! Hope you’re doing well! As summer begins to close up, hopefully you’ve been able to do everything that you’ve wanted! Here in Salina Cruz we’ve been working hard, walking miles, and having lessons. It has been great, even with the extreme heat.
*Service Project #1: House Destroying* Ok Wednesday, we were asked by some recent converts to help because they are going to move pretty soon. So we went over at noon and it turned out we did a bit more than just moving boxes or furniture (we did that too), but we actually had to help disassemble their house because the city is putting in a railroad and a big chunk of their house has to be destroyed to be able to fit the tracks. What we then did was help move and lift really huge and heavy metal handrails and guardrails onto the roof to the part of the house that would be staying. It was hard work, but we got a lot done and had a great meal afterwards made by the member and her daughter.
*Service Project #2: Water Carrying* This one happened on Friday, in the afternoon heat. I was able to go on exchanges with this awesome missionary named Elder Martinez. He has just one transfer more than me, but is an incredible missionary and already great zone leader. We had a fantastic day together with a number of lessons and crazy experiences worth remembering (like this one catholic family that started to bash us).
Anyways, in the late afternoon, we went to this one place called Cerro Alto (tall hill) to do service for this one member with a bit of a bummed up leg. The project was to haul water from a well to his house, a distance about 200 yards. But it had a slight incline and we had to make the trip 6 times! I was sure dead at the end of it and my shoulders still feel sore from it all. I think next time we might be sending him to ask the ward for help, haha.
*Zone Conference * This week we also had our zone conference (the fun never stops, right?) and it was a good one. The unfortunate part was that it over zoom, but it all turned out much better than I thought. And honestly, it was a much needed conference for me. They had some excellent presentations and I really think it gave the whole zone that “boost” to get the transfer really going. The common idea through it it was certainly about being confident and courageous, with some interesting other lessons thrown in too, such as how to have a great Family Home Evening. Zone conferences are always the best and this one wasn’t an exception.
*The Work* We surprisingly didn’t have a whole lot of time to “work” this week, but Elder Cauble and I were able to smash our goals out of the park and make some great progress with some of our amigos in teaching. Unfortunately, for Artemio, we are going to have to wait a bit or his baptism, because he is going through some personal trials right now. But he still is excited to keep progressing in the church and Gospel.
However, miracles do still exist! On Sunday, we passed by the house of this one person we found, Rodrigo, to bring him to church. He accepted, but we were running late and hopped in a taxi. Then, this other random guy gets in with us. At first we though, “great, he is just going to use us to get a free ride to the central of Salina Cruz”, but when we got out at the church, he did too, and then asked if he could go in and participate! We obviously said yes and both him (Roberto) and Rodrigo went to both hours and loved it! So we’ll just have to see what comes out of it all!
